Our
alumni are important sources of innovation for
society and industry, and play a leading role
in the economic, social and cultural development
of Ireland and countries around the world. We
foster creativity across and between disciplines
and are committed to making education accessible
to people from diverse backgrounds.
At DIT, students work in an environment where
the arts, humanities and social sciences converge
with the sciences and business. Our aim is to
provide the best educational experience for
each and every one of our students. DIT students
participate in a wide range of extra-curricular
activities, societies and clubs.
Located at the heart of the social, cultural
and business life of Ireland’s capital
city, DIT provides rich opportunities for intellectual
and personal development. Our graduates demonstrate
the confidence, interpersonal skills and commitment
to innovation crucial to their professional
and personal lives.
The
Faculty of Applied Arts at DIT has
an international reputation for pioneering and
developing innovative, interdisciplinary and
professional level programmes across the visual
and performing arts, journalism and communications,
and the humanities and social sciences to meet
the changing needs of society. Our philosophy
is to develop a culture of critical and reflective
thinking, informed by experience and an appreciation
of creative and professional practice, and applicable
technologies.
We emphasise a real integration between theory
and practice. We teach bodies of knowledge,
ways of working, histories of disciplines, theoretical
understanding, uses of material/ equipment and
skills. Students are encouraged to achieve the
highest intellectual and artistic standard possible
and to consider a wide range of career possibilities
in traditional and emerging fields in social,
economic and public life.
There are currently over 3,000 students studying
at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the
Faculty. Our programmes are modularised and
students are offered a choice of electives and
study abroad opportunities with universities
across Europe and the United States. As a result,
our graduates are highly sought after in both
the private and public sectors.
We are active in a wide range of national, European
and international research projects, in the

and Media Arts
