To Find Your Way North - www.StudyinFinnishLapland.fi
Finnish Lapland, the northern most region in
the European Union, is a distinctive and captivating
land. While studying in one of our high-quality
programmes, you will be able to experience the
wonders of the Arctic.
Finnish Lapland is home to three higher education
institutions - the University of Lapland (www.ulapland.fi),
Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences (www.tokem.fi),
and Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences
(www.ramk.fi).
With more than 10,000 degree students, including
1,000 international students, these three institutions
represent the very best in Educational Qualifications.
According to the OECD's “PISA Survey”,
the Finnish education system is the most successful
in the world. In addition, the World Economic
Forum has continuously identified Finland as
one of the world's most competitive economies.
The main reasons for such success are the high
quality of science and technology, and the rapid
internationalization of our education. All three
higher education institutions in northern Finland
are providers of cutting-edge knowledge, and
excellence and know-how.
If
you are interested in internationally oriented
higher education, at either the bachelor, masters’
or doctoral levels, which closely collaborate
with industry and business, then we have a programme
that will interest you.
Full-time studies for a Bachelor’s degree
can last three to four years, with the extent
of the degree being 180 - 240 credits. While
the studies for a Master’s degree takes
two years, with the extent being 120 credits.
The postgraduate degrees are Licentiate (2 years)
and Doctoral (4 years) degrees, with Doctoral
studies closely linked to research work done
at universities and international research institutions.
The University of Lapland, Kemi-Tornio University
of Applied Sciences, and Rovaniemi University
of Applied Sciences are state regulated institutions,
issuing degrees that are internationally recognised.
In
addition to degree certificates, all three institutions
issue a Diploma Supplement, which is a document
jointly designed by the EU, the Council of Europe
and UNESCO to provide information about the
studies completed by the student; the status
of the degree awarded; and the qualification
provided by the degree for further studies and
employment.
In Finland, there are no tuition fees in degree
awarding programmes, however, some nominal fees
may apply to non-degree programmes. The cost
of living can vary between 500 and 800 euros
per month.
Hospitality
of northern Finland
Our higher education institutions in Finnish
Lapland are renowned for their friendly hospitality.
With high teacher to student ratios, and modern
student services provided in English, complemented
with individual tutoring and advanced learning
facilities, we offer our students the best learning
environment possible.
Teaching
is provided in up-to-date study facilities with
research tools such as free access to well equipped
computer labs and libraries which are at every
student's disposal. Our campuses and housing
companies offer student accommodation at reasonable
prices. Campuses have various catering outlets
and sports facilities with special student prices.
A variety of indoor and outdoor activities are
organised by student organisations. In addition
to services on campus, we offer several services
off campus. For example personal student advisory
services are offered. Many of our academic staff
members are fluent in English, whilst the language
is widely spoken in society.
Your
personal safety is a valued issue. The crime
rate is low in Finland in comparison with most
other European countries. Visitors have little
need to fear for their personal safety or their
property. Finland is by international standards
a safe, tolerant and open nation where inappropriate
behaviour does not usually occur.
The
combination of high quality education in a Nordic
society where Western and Eastern traditions
meet, form the foundation for an inspiring cross-culture
learning experience that will provide you with
an innovative learning platform, to increase
your potential and capabilities in shaping your
future.
